Faculty Support through the Institute for Civic and Community Engagement (Lynn Donahue)
Project Development: Project development support is available to locate community partners, create CEL projects, and develop a Project Plan in collaboration with the partner and course instructor. Contact Lynn Donahue to begin this process. Partners can also be developed independently if they meet the CEL criteria. All CEL courses are given a CEL Attribute on the Registration page for searching.
Course Development: Faculty consulting is available on modifying syllabus and developing reflection exercises, assignments, and assessments. Contact Lynn Donahue to schedule an appointment. Student Orientation: An Introduction to CEL Orientation video should be shown to all students to orient them to Community Engaged Learning definition, expectations, and safety at the beginning of the semester. If requested, in-class student orientation can be provided by Lynn Donahue. Faculty Training: Training seminars are offered prior to the participating semester and are required for stipend recipients. Mid-semester workshops are often provided on topics of interest to Community Engaged Learning faculty and community partners. |
Community Engagement Library: Sample Community Engaged Learning books, example syllabi, tools, pedagogy, and assessment strategies, and community partner literature are available for check-out in the Community Engaged Learning Library in 104 Library.
Faculty Fellow CEL Stipends: Stipends for course development are available to Community Engaged Learning faculty depending on newness of course, number of community partners and faculty, etc. Civic Engagement Grants: CE Grants can be applied to meet needs of Community Engaged Learning projects and for sustainability of Community Engaged Learning work. Transportation Funds: Faculty can apply for funds to transport their students to CEL sites. Assessment: Students, faculty, and community partners are assessed on outcomes and impact through the CE Student, Faculty, and Community Impact Assessments. These surveys are available on-line and will be distributed at the conclusion of the semester. Promotion and Recognition: Recognition of Community Engaged Learning outcomes occurs through highlighting CEL work on the Community Engaged Learning website, the College News, and through the annual Civic Engagement Awards Celebration. |
